Well we finally made it to Tanpits - 3 years in waiting. It certainly exceeded all expectations.
We had some house days where the weather wasn't too good. This was no hardship when the cottage is so perfect and Lucy still had the garden and field to explore.
So much to do and see we will have to come back.
Had special birthday meal at Twenty Seven.

Third time this year! Did all the things we love doing here.
Excellent weather for most of the week helped.
Special this time was an early morning guided tour around Brixham Fish Market.
Well worth the pre 5am rise to get there.

We absolutely loved it. So much to see and do in the area, we explored all new places from last time
from Kingsbridge to North Sands ( All year round beach for dogs) and great seaside restaurant The Winking Prawn.
To a day out in Plymouth.

It was great! Keziah (age 8)

We have looked so forward to our second visit to Tanpits & it didn't disappoint.
Fantastic cottage that provides everything you need for a fabulous stay..
Rudi has been up at 7am. every morning wanting to go up the field.
Louis & Bear have had a good run around and even Hattie has had a 10 minute walk on the lead.
Julie and Wal came for 3 days and we met up with friends from Totnes. We hadn't seen Hiliary in over 4 years!
Tanpits was the place for us all to meet up.
Day trips to Torcross & Salcombe were very interesting, These Aussies don't like the sea!
Many thanks to Alexis & Pete for allowing us to stay again.
Only 3 more stays booked, roll on October!! x

Our second visit & will not be our last, absolutely fabulous place, just magical. We and our three woofs had a super time again visiting many ol' haunts & new.
Weather could have been better but hey-ho it's Holidays! And Tanpits makes up for all that!
Thank you so much Pete & Alexis for sharing with us. xx

Such a wonderful cottage! We took 4 dogs family and friends. There was so much room for 6 adults and 4 dogs. The huge paddock and garden was perfect for the dogs to have a run before we set off for our daily exploring! Very close to a wonderful local pub, and not far to walk back.
I think the dogs were catered wonderfully- drinking coffee out of the wonderful cups did make us feel like traitors to our breed as every breed of dog but a Flatcoat! We would love to return to Tanpits sometime in the future, Peter and Alexis could not have done any more to make us feel so welcomed. Thankyou for sharing your wonderful home!

We had an amazing week at Tanpits in January, the cottage was so comfortable, well appointed and in a perfect location to explore the area. The local pubs serve amazing food and were extremely dog friendly. The field was perfect for zoomies and the secure garden a bonus. The locals were very welcoming, we caught the end of the wasailing celebrations and were invited to enjoy some local cider. We had great weather, cold and dry and enjoyed our coastal walks. All in all a perfect week away for us and our two dogs. Many thanks for sharing the Pink Palace with us, Karen, Graeme, Bonnie and Dora xxxx

An amazing cottage - a truly dog friendly (rather than dog tolerant) cottage - the field is fabulous - inside the cottage is literally like a cup of hot chocolate on a cold day - it envelops you into serenity - everything is provided to ensure you really do feel at home - it did take me 4 hours to find the freezer though (it's in the outside utility 😂😂) would we visit again absolutely would we recommend to everyone we know with dogs absolutely - if you're looking for perfection in a beautiful location Tanpits will be for you 💞🐾

Our second visit, but absolutely not our last.
Another wonderful week in the most idyllic cottage that is so well equipped and truly feels like home - from - home.
Comfy beds, and a cosy feel - so welcoming!
Recommend the Church House Inn in Stokenham and Stokley Farm Shop for great service and food.
Had a wonderful week.

Just back from our first stay at Tanpits Cottage and are totally hooked. We have always looked for a holiday for the dogs (they always come first) and this stunning cottage was well worth the wait. So homely, beautifully decorated and has everything you need for a great relaxing holiday. All the 5 dogs had a fantastic time in the 2 acre field, even 12 year old Bear & 11 year old Hattie were doing zoomies!! Rudi the youngster of the pack was waiting to go into the field at 10.30pm every night ... in the pitch black. Our best friends also came for a 2 night stay and have already asked when they can come back. Thank you to Alexis & Peter for allowing us to stay. Had 4 holidays booked at Tanpits BEFORE our first visit and cant wait to return in 2023.

First Visit! Next visit already booked!
Have wanted to come to Tanpits for years......and this week we finally made it
This cottage is truly amazing! And has everything you could possibly need.
Friends came for a few days and the first thing they said was " When are we coming back!"
As for the dogs, they have had a brilliant time.
Rudi (known as Mr. Elastic as he never stops) has loved the field. Even the old boy Bear at 12 has had a trot across the field.
A truly magical place to recharge the batteries.
Stunning sunshine in October has made this the best holiday ever!!
Thank you to Peter & Alexis for letting us stay.

We have just had a wonderful week with our two dogs at this gorgeous cottage. Thank you Peter and Alexis for letting us use what is so obviously a home. So much was provided there was absolutely nothing more we could have needed for both us and our dogs. The relief of having a totally secure escape proof garden is such an important issue to us and how lovely it was to feel relaxed letting the dogs out. The paddock is an added bonus despite our spaniels always seeking the hedges! The cottage wraps it’s warmth around you and we hope to visit again as it’s an area we love. Local pubs are great, coastal paths and beaches are there to explore. Thank you again.

A wonderful cottage with absolutely everything you may need.
So obviously a home too, which makes you want to take special care of it.
Loved the Bear & Blacksmith and the Pigs Nose is a must to visit.
Great walks Beesands to Start point and our favourite Hope Cove to Bantham with lunch at the Sloop Inn before the return journey.
We had very tired dogs most days!
Bolberry Down worth a visit if It's not too windy!
A wonderful week in a super relaxing cottage.
Thank you Peter & Alexis for letting us stay.

After a delayed start to our holiday we met up with my sister and her family at Tanpits. A lovely cottage, plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the surroundings. Dogs loved the field and the freedom it gave them. Those country lanes were a challenge in places but it was a good base to travel and see some of the great towns nearby. Thank you from all of us x

A lovely few days away from home in what turned out to be difficult times with H.M. The Queen passing.
Finally got to experience the Big Pink Cottage after waithing nearly 3 years.
The dogs loved it!

Would like to return in the future.

Thank you Peter and Alexis for letting us use your cottage for a great few days. The weather was good all week, our dogs thought we had taken them to heaven when they were running around the garden and field and the food in the local pubs was excellent. We can really recommend the Church Inn for lunch. Our spaniels thought the beach (Torcross) was super fun albeit that the strong winds made the waves somewhat fierce for them. You have made it very easy for your guests and their dogs by providing pretty much everything anyone could ever need for a nice relaxing time. Congratulations to you both.

We have had the most AMAZING week at your beautiful cottage. It by far exceeded our expectations which were already quite high given the wonderful reviews when we booked. There is nothing you haven't thought of and the dog toys were an added bonus and my shepherd totally fell in love with a big blue football which he's carried around all week.
We have had a young one eyed buzzard visiting most days and he/she seems to rather like the picnic table in the field so we've placed a dog bowl of water on there which he's been using.
We have had such a fabulous, chilled time we will definitely be back. Our elderly (mostly blind, very deaf) Doberman has had such a bounce in her step that we've not seen in such a long time, it's been worth it just for that.
With huge thanks and very best wishes from the 5 humans and two very happy dogs.

Another great week at Lovely Tanpits!
Super weatherfor 3 days left us all a little sunburnt.
Recommend South Milton beach & the Beach House for fresh fish dishes.
Also tried the ferry from Kingsbridge to Salcombe - much easier than parking!
Otis loved the field as usual. A lovely week

We've had another fabulous week at this truly wonderful cottage.
Glorious sunshine every day has made outings to Salcombe, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Beesands and the Sidmouth donkey sanctuary a delight and returning to Tanpits
each day has been the icing on the cake!
The garden is heavenly and we have become addicted to watching the bird activity on the feeders!
Another perfect holiday.

Beautiful Tanpits! Our 4th visit and every time it is even more glorious than the time before.
Our first time here without our precious Bailey (the reason we first found Tanpits, for him to enjoy some freedom in the wonderful field.)
So many happy memories here of our holidays with him, we felt him with us everywhere and could see himrunning around the field, and now, so many more memories made again with Jess & Smurf.
Cosy perfect cottage, stunning walks, amazing places to explore.
We can't wait to be back again soon xxxx Thank you!

We have just returned from a very timely family holiday week at Tanpits. 6 adults 2 children and our English Setter Harvey. Tanpits is a beautiful cottage with the most amazing garden with its own safely fenced little waterfall and field. It has everything there you could wish for and perfectly placed for exploring the South Hams area. A lovely and very comfortable stay with more than enough room for us all.

First time visit to Tanpits - cottage & weather gorgeous. We all loved the big pink farmhouse - comfy beds, all requirements catered for. Lots of things to do and some stunning views. So peaceful to just spend the day in the garden. Dogs are well catered for - our 2 we’re tired out every day, and fascinated by the stream! Thank you Tanpits xx

Our second visit to Tanpits and still love it. We have had some amazing walksover the week, started with a local walk from the cottage to Beesands (and back!)
Some other favourites are Bolberry, South Milton and the nature reserve and ley walk at Slapton.
The coastal walks are really lovely and some lead to really guiet coves, ideal for the dogs to play.
The weather has been kind to us too.
What more could we ask for?
Thank you for a lovely week.

Thankyou to Peter and Alexis and Tanpits.
We have had a wonderful week and we were sad to leave.
So many highlights, however the joy of the dogs running in their holiday paddock and then jumping in the stream is probably one of the best.
The dog friendly beaches were so special and our girlie is getting braver regards getting her tummy wet.
Looking forward to a return visit in 2023.

A fantastic cottage set in a perfect location with excellent facilities for us and our three dogs.
Our expectations were high before we set off but even these were exceeded the moment we arrived.
So peaceful and relaxing, we enjoyed it so much so that half way through our holiday we were already making arrangements for our next visit.
We cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you so much Peter and Alexis.

Thank you once again Alexis & Peter for allowing the Rossweilers to stay in your stunning cottage, 2nd time here and loved every minute. The weather's been kind to us again, brought our latest addition Xander on his first vacation. He was perfect! Had his first swim at Bigbury a very proud moment for us.
Bella could be found on squirrel watch daily, Keiva & Klaus snoozing the day. Even our late Rosco came back with us. Laid his ashes to rest under his favourite bush.
We absolutely love Tanpits.
Thank you so much.

26 Jun 2021

Another fine and enjoyable week at Tanpits Cottage.
It was a great pleasure to see how well the local community has survived the pandemic.
In particular Kingsbridge High Street and all its fine shops has emerged unscathed.
A special mention also for the Church House Inn & the Cricket Inn at Beesands. Sister establishments and each as good as you will find anywhere.
Finally Tanpits Cottage - an excellent place for a week in Devon.

A hidden dusky pink gem in a stunning location with an incredible history that you feel the moment you step through the gates. Warm, cosy, welcoming and comfortable with so many thoughtful touches. An absolute credit to Peter & Alexis who evidently put heart and soul into Tanpits, in addition to the obvious hard work put in by the housekeepers too.
Peaceful, relaxing & perfect for our three fur-babies who’s tails’ didn’t stop wagging all week (until they eventually, worn out, curled up in front of an epic log burner). we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone wanting something a bit extra special for a break away. P.S The food and friendly service from the Bear & Blacksmith is not to be missed! Thanks for having us! Rob, Sarah, Cisco, Libby & Poppy x x x

Tanpits is the most fantastic cottage ever! It was well worth the 18 month wait. So dog friendly, the dog shower was perfect. Everything you could need for your dog is there. The cottage itself is beautiful and charming. The 2 acre field was well used by our 3 year old spaniel. Would recommend going to the Bear and Blacksmith pub. So many lovely walks nearby. Will definitely be booking again, how ever long the wait is it will be worth it.

Once again a fantastic holiday. Can’t fault Peter and Alexis for their obvious love of dogs. Everything you need or might need is at your fingertips. Beit poo bags that you forgot to bring, or dog towels it is all there. New carpet in the tv room, my hounds tiptoed! Gardeners turned up and did their work and made a fuss of my 2. Takeaway fish and chips on Friday from the bear and blacksmith.... scrummy. The weather too cold to sit outside at any local pub, but there is always next time, already booked and the next.... already booked. Thank you Alexis and Peter, for yet again a wonderful stay

Sandy

09 May 2021

It was so wonderful to be back at Tanpits, just so snuggly, warm and welcoming. In the most beautiful location with a secure pretty garden and two acre field for the puppy to have a fabulous runabout. The cottage is pure heaven with everything you need for a home from home stay. We loved feeding and watching the birds and wildlife and we were so lucky to see a hedgehog running about early one evening in the garden. Amazing!
The Bear and Blacksmith pub, the best pub in Devon, provided delicious dinner takeaways every night and the lunchtime fish and chips from the Britannia at Beesands was the best ever!
We are lucky enough to be coming back soon. Counting the days....
Love Sue, Ade and Summer xxx

15 Dec 2020

This was a very last minute booking due to the cancellation of our regular autumn holiday in Wales. What a find!! Once we had negotiated the gates to the car park, we were greeted by a magnificent cottage.
Given the age of the cottage, we were amazed at how fresh and clean everything was. (Testament to a good housekeeping team)
Many of the original features having been retained and with tasteful additions. Particularly liked the new leather sofas - very comfy 🙂
The great thing about this cottage, is the space you have, both inside and out. There were only six of us but, even if there had been 8, we could all have had plenty of personal space.
Breakfast in the kitchen was a highlight - watching the birds and squirrels whilst we ate. The two acre field was a major bonus - Bailey absolutely loved it, able to run as much as he wanted with no restrictions.
Returning home to a "welcome home" postcard was also a nice touch - thank you.

Had an awesome stay at Tanpits. Beautiful property well positioned for visiting many scenic locations.
Plenty of space for the dogs to exercise. So lucky with the weather.
Thank you Alexis & Peter for all the extras that made our break so enjoyable, lovely to meet you both personally at the Bear & Blacksmith which we highly recommend for food and drinks.

We have just come back from a wonderful week at Tanpits with our 5 dogs. We can’t recommend Tanpits enough (in fact we are already booked for another week in 2022), would come back sooner if they could fit us in.
The cottage is relaxing and welcoming with lots of room and we loved the wood burner on cold wet evenings.
Our dogs had lots of fun running around in the field and everything was set up with dogs in mind (even the abundance of dog towels).
Thank you Alexis and Peter for sharing Tanpits with us xx.

Tanpits is a lovely cottage set in the countryside of South Hams, on the edge of a village, with its own 2 acre field to exercise your dog. The house is large, comfortable, and equipped with everything you could possibly need in a home away from home. It's charm envelops you - peace permeates.
It's location is superb with an excellent gastro pub 2 mins walk away ( you will need to book it as it's very popular), a great farmshop/taproom/cafe 6 mins drive away, Torcross beach 8 mins drive away and Beesands beach 12 mins drive away (The Cricket Inn there serves excellent food too but you need to book it as it's quite rightly very popular too !).
Beautiful Salcombe and Dartmouth are nearby, 35 mins or so, and definitely worth visits for the day.
Peter and Alexis have poured love into their home, and it shows. They are caring hosts and readily accessible for communication/advice if needed.
We highly, highly recommend this delightful holiday cottage.

19 Sep 2020

Tanpits is every bit the perfect property. A beautiful historic cottage set in stunning gardens and grounds. The adjoining 2 acre field was perfect for a springy springer spaniel.
It’s very well equipped both for people and their four legged friends. There are plenty of towels and play things for the dogs, and the kitchen is brilliantly stocked of unexpected things like weighing scales and scone cutters (believe me, people like me who bake on holiday think that’s brilliant!). The outside dog shower was a god-send after an afternoon on the beach!
The beds are very comfortable and everything is so clean and tidy. The little home-from-home comforts like high-speed wifi and a smart tv (signed in to Netflix) are a handy addition, especially for the kiddies.
There is so much space for everyone so you can do everything and anything you want, or not if you don’t want to. The cottage is so close to civilisation yet it’s so peaceful that you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in the middle of nowhere.
Alexis and Peter are wonderful hosts. They’re both very friendly and can’t do enough to help. They simply add to the whole experience and make it that extra bit special.
Tanpits is a special diamond in the South Hams, and a little bit of magic too. We’ll definitely be back!

A fabulous week in an idyllic setting. The house is intoxicating and has cast it's spell on us all.
The weather played ball and we did almost everything we'd planned.
First visit to the Bear & Blacksmith - highly recommended!
Beesands and the Cricket Inn are a must, as is the Church House.
Thank you Peter & Alexis for being the perfect hosts. We've loved our visit and will be back!

Aside from the obvious lovely setting, for me it was the small touches that mattered. They provide dog tags saying that “I am on holiday at Tanpits”. You get 10% off at the pub round the corner, when we got home we received a postcard, the dog towels were better quality than my own towel, the games room to keep the kids quiet.

Highly recommended 👍

Thank you for letting us stay at Tanpits. It was amazing.
The rain added to the experience! Driving through the lanes was an experience.
As soon as you walk into the cottage you're surrounded by good energy and feel so welcome.
The only way I can describe it it's like the whole cottage is one big cuddle. Felt like home.
Can't wait to come back next year.

We didn't start very well as the car broke down on the way here & we almost had to go home.
So glad we made it though, as it would have been a shame not to be able to enjoy such a wonderful place.
We seem to have chosen the coldest week possible but the log burners kept us warm.

Denise & Kathrine's 3rd. trip to Tanpits, but a first from the rest of the family.
Such a wonderful house to celebrate New Year in. Tanpits is so cosy and like a home from home with a really well equipped kitchen.
We had a fab meal at the Bear & Blacksmith, & Rockfish in Dartmouth has the best fish & chips ever!
Despite mediocre weather we had lovely beach walks & an atmospheric walk on Dartmoor.
The sun came out on Friday- a perfect way to say goodbye to Tanpits this time.
Thanks Alexis & Peter for creating this bit of Heaven in Devon!

My first visit to Devon & boy has it been a wet one!
Thankfully the cottage is lovely and homely, especially with the fire going very cosy too!
We have managed to do a few walks & the dogs have enjoyed the beach with Ambabarking at the waves/sea.
I'm sure the rockfall had absolutely nothing to do with her yodeling!
Nikita, Eboni and I will be back third time this year in 4 weeks.
Hope the rain will be gone. See you in December.

We have had some epic walks with the dogs around the local area- east Prawle in particular for stunning if scary walking!
We visited the Bear & Blacksmith twice - wonderful Sunday lunch & evening meal.
Howerver the amazing ice creams at Slapton- with sprinkles were the highlight!

After 3 weeks at Tanpits it's beginning to feel like home. Been here so many times we've now lost count. Shame everybody else likes it so much or we would probably be back more often.
New for us this year was Brittania on the Beach at Beesands, excellent, but you need to book very early. Also visited Coleton Fishacre for the first time. Very worthwhile. All very enjoyable as ever.

Wow! what an amazing time spent at Tanpits cottage. On arrival we were taken aback by the breathtaking cottage & surrounding garden & scenery!
It's just amazing! We spent our week visiting lots of beaches and exploringaround the gorgeous area. We were very lucky with the sun too! Which allowed lots of time just to "chill" in the beautiful gardens of Tanpits.
Thank you for making our holiday a "home from home experience".
We will definitely come back and recommend your beautiful cottage to others.
Thank you.

Our 3rd visit to this amazing place! It never fails to make us feel welcome & at home.
The extra touches - doggy treats, towels, dishes & shower show that Alexis & Pete genuinely care about the comfort of four legged friends too.
I always feel totally relaxed as soon as we set foot inside Tanpits, it really is a little piece of heaven.
A week goes too fast but we're leaving feeling refreshed - Tanpits has worked it's magic!

Hi Alexis & Peter,
Firstly I’d like to thank you for the postcard that was waiting for us when we got home. Such a lovely touch and yes, the ‘Tanpits Blues’ have already kicked in.
Even Ozzy keeps looking at me wondering when we’ll be popping into his ‘own’ field again! 🤣
Secondly, thank you for all the wonderful, welcoming touches that make Tanpits so special. We’ve stayed in loads of cottages, and we can honestly say Tanpits stands head and shoulders above any others for making us and Ozzy feel so welcome and at home.
The doggy box and treats were really appreciated - Ozzy thought it was Christmas when we got the toys out!
The shower is fab too!
So I think you can gather that we’ve had a fabulous time - so many lovely memories made in the beautiful pink house ❤️
Already looking forward to next year!

Our first visit to Tanpits Cottage (but not our last!) We loved the cosy comfort of the house and all its lovely touches.
Garden and field were added bonuses. We visited several old haunts - Beesands, Torcross, Dartmouth (Cricket Inn, Britannia, Tradesmans Arms, Queens Arms, Start Bay Inn- all excellent!) Bear & Blacksmith also very good, not so impressed with Millbrook Inn (very flustered person behind the bar.)

Hi guys, just wanted to message and tell you what an amazing week we’ve had at beautiful Tanpits. You’ve really thought of everything and I LOVED the character and personality of the cottage. It felt like a real home from home, complete with super comfy, squashy sofas, an array of books, movies and music as well as the stunning kitchen diner. Additionally I don’t think I’ve ever stayed somewhere so dog friendly! Sometimes places purport to be “dog friendly” but this really shone through in the cottage, from the thoughtful doggy box to the array of mugs and kitchenware featuring our favourite four legged friends 🐶
Even when we had a rainy day, the family had fun playing Jenga, listening to the Sonos system and we had our own champions league going on at the football table. I know you’re booked up for next year, but we would love to come in 2021 when you start taking bookings for it!

Just reaching the end of our first week at Tanpits. What a great holiday cottage this is for both humans and dogs.
The garden is really pretty this time of year (March) and the weather hasn’t been bad at all.
The field is fantastic for exercising the dogs or for practicing training and it’s lovely not to have to get up and walk the dogs at the start of the day. A walk and a play in the field every morning, afternoon and evening became the norm.
The cottage is close to many dog friendly beaches and the local cafes, shops and restaurants are run by really friendly people.
The cottage has everything you need for a fantastic stay, some special thought has been put into a great welcome.
All we need to do is decide when to come back again before too many people read my review

23 Mar 2019

We all had a wonderful and relaxing holiday at “Tanpits” just what we all needed.
The Cottage was very inviting and had everything we needed, the TV room was my favourite it was so cosy, the garden was very pretty and even in March it gave a good show, the dogs loved the long wrap around lawn and the real bonus was the field, one of the highlights for me was getting up of a morning... making a cup of coffee and heading to the field with the gang, watching them playing and making full use of all that space was a joy but we won't mention the fox poo !!
There are lots of great places to explore and we made full use of them, most days we did 6 miles or more walks, but always looked forward to heading back to the cottage to enjoy a meal a glass of wine and chill at the end of an enjoyable day, the veranda is brilliant we loved sitting there of a night sheltered from the weather with a glass of red.
The pub in the village is dog friendly and the food is very good, a really nice atmosphere, and well worth a visit.
A Holiday to remember

Tanpits cottage is really something special. Beautiful inside and out. We loved all the loving detail of the decor of the cottage and it is so comfy and warm. Everything really worked, even the doggie shower which is a great idea. The location is perfect as it is only 10 mins to the beach at Beesands where we loved walking with Zante and then enjoying the best seafood ever in the Cricket Inn for lunch. The local pub in Chillington, the Bear and Blacksmith was such a hit that we had many lunches and dinners there. We all had a wonderful holiday and look forward to a return visit.

We had a wonderful week at your perfect cottage. We loved everything about it. The log burners, the comfy sofas, the way it was so spotlessly clean and so well equipped and how you had thought of everything! The garden was great for the dogs and the field attached was a real bonus. It was a great location with loads of walks close by. The pub next door was stunning. The food was so delicious we ate there every night! It was so dog friendly we felt totally relaxed. We appreciated the fact that they could behave exactly as they did at home. We hope we left it exactly as we found it for the next people to enjoy. Thank you so much 😊

Thank you for sharing your fabulous cottage. We have all had a fantastic and magical Christmas together.
The cottage is warm, cosy and quirky with everything we needed.
A friendly welcome was had at the Bear and Blacksmith both for scrummy Sunday lunch and on Christmas day for drinks.

An amazing place to stay with every creature comfort for the humans and the dogs alike. Everything was provided for the dogs that you could possibly want....dog bowls, towels, shower etc etc. They loved playing in the gardens with the garden providing sunny areas and shady bits when they needed it. They slept so well every evening it was like having kids going to bed early...bliss! Can't recommend this place highly enough and we will definitely be returning.

What a lovely cottage which catered for our every needs. The dogs loved the field to do their zoomies round and round. We were even able to do some training with them.
We were very lucky with the weather. We went to several beaches and of course several pubs.
We came across so many friendly people - to be honest they seemed more interested in our dogs.

31 Mar 2018

We enjoyed every minute of our stay, it really is a beautiful cottage. We had heavy snow for two days but that didn't spoil anything. In fact it was magical being here with the snow. The boys loved running around in the garden & field I don't think they want to go home. We didn't explore much, three boxer dogs are a handful, but we didn't need to as we had everything we needed here. We went to the Bear and Blacksmith one night, food was nice, a little pricey but nice for an evening out. We can see a lot of thought has gone into the cottage, everything you need is here. Amazing job. The only suggestion I have, is that maybe invest in another TV, only saying this as my husband spent most of the week hogging it and playing on the PS4. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We absolutely loved our week at Tanpits (March 2018). The cottage is beautiful, such a tranquil location and so close to the beaches and town if you need them! Plenty to see and do, or just relax and enjoy the well equipped cottage and superb grounds. Our dogs had a wonderful time and although respectful were immediately at home in such a dog friendly cottage! Even the charity shop in town is dog friendly. Highly recommend!

Lost count of the times we have visited. We love this area and the cottage as do Tag & Red our our cockers. We were greeted by two orphan escaped lambs in the field on the Sunday but soon had them returned to their owners. Sunday roast lunch at Stokley Farm Shop was one of the best ever- highly recommended.
The mild start to the week was finished by increasingly cold weather making the log burner very welcome.
We are to return again (and again!)

As soon as we walked into the beautiful country kitchen I knew I was going to love this place. It's a beautiful cottage. We were a little chilly at times but once we mastered the TV lounge log burner we cosied up.
My favourite part of our holiday was the frosty evenings, the stars are amazing on clear nights.
Our dogs are not too social with other dogs so the field was perfect for them. They adored it.
We loved the Sonos system.

6 of us go away every year with our dogs - often 5 or 6 of them - and have done for many years! We now have this gorgeous house down as one of the ones we want to come back to! So much comfort and space. Such a great location. So many thoughtful touches. The coastal walks were stunning. We loved the Pigs Nose pub at East Prawle, so much so we went there 3 times! The Chillington village pub was great too. We were spoilt for choice! There's a lot to see in the area - a week wasn't nearly long enough! Thank you Peter and Alexis!

We stayed at Tanpits Oct half term, 8 of us in total, including our family of 4 hubby me and 2 children. my step daughter and step son with their other halves and Fizzgig the dog. From the moment we arrived it felt like home. So much thought has gone into making accommodation welcolming and super comfortable. I'm terrible when I go away as find beds uncomfortable. But this wasn't the case here with the quality bedding from John Lewis and the memory foam toppers on the bed, we all slept so soundly. The property was so well equipped with everything down to tea bags and condiments and other little touches which made our stay even easier. It was spotlessly clean and spacious so we never felt on top of each other bearing in mind 8 people under the same roof. As for the gardens, they were stunning, facilities for washing, ironing, and drying clothes just everything had been catered for. Would also recommend Visiting local pub The a Bear and Blacksmith for a very competitive priced meal...the owners recommended lots of lovely things too including The Cricket Inn, Beesands which we went to celebrate hubbys 50th. Peter and Alexis were always contactable and nothing was too much trouble for them. I must have emailed them on many occasions and they were only too happy to help!! Would come back without a second thought...only negative is they are booked so far in advance !!! Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable and wish you all the luck in the future. excellent base to sightsee too...lots around to suit everyone. Will see you soon Tanpits. Xxx

Our first visit to Tanpits. The children have loved their holiday and the dogs love all the space of the garden and the field.
We all had a lovely stay at this wonderful cottage.
We have loved the local pub, very friendly. Dartmouth was a lovely town we would recommend the river cruise on the Dartmouth Explorer. Very funny commentary.
We can't wait to come back and are sorry to leave. Thank you.
We also had dinner at the Cricket Inn and The Globe, equally as nice. Visited Dartmouth Castle, lovely place with nice tea rooms. Recommend a visit to Kents Caverns in Torquay too! Dartmouth town and Kingsbridge are lovely little towns worth a visit.
Absolutely stunning beaches - you could be anywhere in the world! Salcombe lovely too - make sure you go to Roly's fudge shop - it's to die for!
We will definitely return! Loved every moment of our holiday!
Thank you for making our stay so special, lovely home and would recommend to our friends.

We will be taking away such happy memories including celebrating my Dad's birthday with a BBQ in the late evening sun. Kids, adults and pets are feeling wonderfully relaxed and refreshed! Thank you Peter and Alexis for sharing your beautiful holiday home with us 🏡. We hope to come back again soon! xxxxxxxxx

Loved our first week here and sad to go home , but super happy to have Booked for next year. This is a fab location for our about days , a village little shop for bits , play park opposite, fab pub "staggering distance " and for anyone with little people the added extras things like kids cups, plates and cutlery. Little bits like cling film and foil for packed lunches and all the added help means we are not going home with tons of dirty washing as we could do it as we went , the dishwasher was perfect so not hours of washing up , a lovely BBQ for outdoor dining , a fab play barn for the odd rainy day. And the DVD player for some chill out time.
The bedrooms are beautiful and very roomy I loved the roll top bath in our bathroom and the view from the bath was stunning (while having a glass of vino also) this has been a fab week of friends , family, food and fun. Roll on August 2018 for another week at the pink cottage (and see what's new with the EB Collection)

A beautiful spacious cottage and we didn't want for anything. This has certainly been the nicest dog friendly cottage we have ever stayed in. The doggie field was an added bonus and loved by all the pooches, as well as the luxury of the warm doggie shower and all the thoughtful doggie extras. Would highly recommend

Had a fantastic week here. Beautiful cottage which has been the best we've ever stayed in. Added bonus was doggie field. Thank you

What a wonderful week we've had! The cottage is amazing! Lots of finishing touches - the vase of flowers upon arrival & Tanpits Treats show the amount of thought put into making guests feel welcome.
The cottage itself is truly a home from home & the field is a doggy delight!
The only thing I would change is our departure date, it's arrived too soon :-( Can't wait to return next year.
Thank you Peter & Alexis for allowing us to share your piece of Devon Heaven.

Love it, love it, love it, what a great place to spend your holidays, just back from a week at Tanpits, what a gem of a cottage, everything you need for a relaxing time, the field is just brilliant for the dogs, this cottage is in a great location a pub up the road which do great meals, and good beaches not very far, would highly recommend this property , we will be going back at some point as its is very dog friendly and a gorgeous cottage.

We all loved the cottage and got to visit some great places without having to drive for miles! We were fortunate with the weather, but if not then your DVD/CD collections are the best!
Many Thanks!

Just returned from 4th visit to Tanpits and cant wait to come back. The house is always beautiful - friendly atmosphere, exceptionally well catered for and every detail is thought through - our dog took advantage of the "I am on holiday at Tanpits Cottage" tag with phone number in case of wandering !
Would recommend to anyone visiting South Hams (as long as they don't book the weeks we would want for a return visit !!!!)

Tanpits is truly a magical place to go, absolutely perfect for Doggy families and even non Doggy families. Perfect balance of space in the house, spoilt with the two double poster bedrooms, however the view from the bathroom swung it for me.

Perfect beaches a short drive away. Are we going to go back ? Absolutely. Are we going to tell our friends ? Absolutely. Nothing negative to say, except you're getting booked up too quickly !!!

Our dogs loved every minute playing in the field, sleeping in front of the fire and we are also getting one of those doggy showers installed in our garage too !! They are fantastic.

Thank you very very much.

Another wonderful week at Tanpits Cottage. Amazing weather has certainly helped. Boat hire from Salcombe was a great success also rock-pooling at Great Mattiscombe Sands and Hope Cove. Lovely walks round Overbecks and Thurlestone, not forgetting an incredible Cream Tea at Avon Mill Garden Centre Cafe. Wonderful meals at the Bear and Blacksmith and The Tower.

Our third visit. Love it more than ever! The weather has been lovely and had some good walks along the beaches. Saw the Whale in the distance on Wednesday night. A few shopping trips out to Salcombe, Totnes and Dartmouth. Tanpits is lovely as always. Home from Home. Alexis and Pete are so friendly. Don't want to go home. Can't wait to come back in September and December.

We had a wonderful time at your darling, delightful family cottage. Clearly much love and attention to detail has gone into making Tanpits such a relaxing, welcoming and truly idyllic place. Thank you so much. Perfect is the best way we can describe our week. With love and just to let you know we'll be back.

This is one of the best places I've ever stayed. Immaculately clean, comfortable beds, wonderful place to walk the dogs, superb facilities and just dipping completely out of life for a week was just amazing. Look forward to it again a year November. Beautiful beautiful beautiful place. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Gorgeous cottage with total privacy. Perfect for dogs and people alike. Everything you could wish for and more. My family had a totally relaxing week. We had games night, DVD night, food night and a few drinks night.
The dogs just loved it, curled up by the log fires and running around the field. Beach trips and walks. Totally recommend 100%.

Just returned from our week at Tanpits. Had a fabulous time. Weather was rather wet but hey it's January - we always knew that would be a possibility! We were still able to get out and about and Bantham beach was the daily dog walk of choice for Winston our bulldog who just loves the beach! He loved finding sticks and running around on the field too. Cottage is superb, so homely and snuggly with the fires lit. Everything you could want was there, it was a wonderful place to come back to each day for relaxation. Can't fault it - I'm not at all surprised that it is fully booked for the year!

I left Tanpits this morning to come back to Bristol.....it sucks! This evening I go outside and all I hear is traffic, I want the owl back! In the morning I won't be greeted by the Robin, I won't be able to warm my hands on the Rayburn, or make a fire in the lounge to keep the house toasty, I won't get away with walking my dog in my dressing gown! I miss Chillington, more to the point I have the 'Tanpits blues'! Such a fantastic cottage, you really couldn't ask for anything! Such a privilege to relax somewhere so perfect........Thank you xXx

Thanks for a lovely New Year at your cottage, we had a really fabulous holiday made all the better by the weather so we got out and about a lot but were able to come back to a lovely warm cottage for evenings of eating, drinking and playing games while the pooches slept

We have had a fantastic week! Feels like a proper home, not just a holiday rental. Great days on the beaches, Torcross, Beesands and Millbay. Lovely sunny days, cosy nights and family fun by the fires. Will definitely be back in the future. A great winter pick me up! Thank you Peter and Alexis.xxx

Well where do I start... We went expecting a cottage but what we got was totally different. We got a world where everybody needs to go. We walked in and the homely feel embraces you instantly. Big old farmhouse the kids called it. Sat in the bath overlooking the field where the dogs and kids (grown ups too) were having a lovely time. Lovely comfy beds and sofas... games every night. We watched a film once, there is too much to do for anything else!! We went to Paignton Zoo, Plymouth aquarium, Kingsbridge which is beautiful and hilly! Went to Salcombe and Beesands which were both as beautiful. Sulked all the way home and so has everyone else even the dogs!!! They have been running around like god knows what at Tanpits but haven't moved since they got home! Pic to follow! I can't wait until New year when we will visit again. Definitely deserves a five star! Thank you

This cottage is absolutely fabulous. It is so cosy and is extremely well equipped. A friend who was staying with us is a chef ( always a good idea when staying for Christmas!!) and she was very pleased with the kitchen facilities. The interior is very comfy and quirky ( in a good way) lots of vintage items around. And now for the dogs ....this REALLY IS a dog friendly house. There are doggie treats, towels, toys and a WARM outdoor hose if they need a freshen up. The garden is really secure and the field is great for crazy dog chasey games. The location is superb ..really close to some beautiful beaches. Beesands has a lovely cafe that serves yummy crab soup and the best scampi I have ever had. The house has such a warm homely feel and is extremely popular. My advice is to book ASAP . The housekeeper ,Sharon , is a lovely friendly lady who is always ready to help. When the kettle died she had delivered a replacement within a couple of hours when we were out. Brilliant all round. Thanks Alexis and Peter you lucky devils !! Fiona

Another wonderful stay. Don't want to go home. We've been to Totnes, Salcombe, Dartmouth. They all look very festive. The Xmas market at Totnes on a Tuesday evening was amazing. Lots of local produce. The weather has been fabulous, really warm. Spent lots of time on the beach then back to our comfy cottage with a lovely real fire. Looking forward to coming back in March.

Just had a wonderful week at Tanpits cottage. My Mum 84yrs and my daughter and her 2 sons ( 19 and 22yrs) and Charlie Rosie and Tallulah, 3 cheeky Terriers. It was my husband's 60th birthday and it was perfect. Thought we had found our forever holiday cottage but unfortunately so has everyone else and it's fully booked for next year! Such a shame as not sure my Charlie will be around much longer. Thank you for sharing a piece of heaven. x Nikki and Carl

As all the positives about this wonderful place have been written repeatedly in previous reviews, I have decided to write the negatives:
1. We didn’t want to leave
2. Our dogs have sulked since leaving
3. There is so much to see and do locally, that we ran out of time
4. Beds and sofas had some kind of body magnetism effect
5. We were concerned that we were part of some social experiment as everyone we met was lovely, friendly, helpful and happy. So future guests please look out for the pub staff, the shop staff, the bus drivers, the house keepers, the gardeners, locals walking about and the fish man! They must be up to something!
Desperate to return asap.

We had Tanpits for a magical week in November. This is the place we chose to get married in secret. I have such fond memories of this perfect cottage. Every possible need is catered for. Our first stay in this beautiful cottage. And what a week it has been. So many exciting adventures to have. The cottage has been perfect for both 2 and 4 legged. Warm and cosy with every utensil you could ever need. The fire has been a welcoming sight at the end of many walking and swimming adventures. Thank you and woof!

Excellent cottage for dog owners or simply for people. It is extremely welcoming, warm and cosy. The log burners make it so comfortable we didn't want to go out at night, but there was plenty of films to entertain if we wanted them. We were there with four dogs who thought they were in doggy heaven with the large field to run in. Well thought out with little extras that make it so homely. Fantastic weeks holiday. No wonder it is so booked up for 2017.

Our first time here and it has been everything we hoped for and more. A beautiful cottage in an amazing setting. The cottage is clean, homely and everything has been thought of; right down to the "doggie box".
Two days of torrential rain didn't dampen the spirits - we just surfed in it!
Great games of rounders in your lovely field, followed by dreamless sleeps in super comfy beds.
We'll be back. Thank you so much!

If you are looking for a generic South Hams holiday cottage (sea grass flooring, coastal themed blue and cream soft furnishings, carved wooden curlew/sandpiper on the windowsill, state of the art kitchen) then Tanpits ISN'T for you. If, however, you want to be transported back to childhood memories, stay in a magical cottage straight from the pages of a fairytale, a place that hugs you as soon as you step through the door; where you can lose yourself in the stunning tranquility of the garden, or in the joy of all the nick-knacks and nooks and crannies then this quintessentially quirky pink paradise is most definitely the place to be.

"A little piece of Heaven in Devon!"
I actually have no idea where to start this review as I don't think there are words to describe Tanpits, it's a feeling!
From the very moment we stepped out of our car, the cottage, gardens, space and beauty took our breath away and we fell in love. It was completely beyond perfection from the tiny trickling stream, to the authenticity of the trinkets and treasures we found in every nook and cranny.
5 dogs and their humans bounded around like children in a sweet shop exploring the immense gardens, field and remarkable house, we were lucky enough to be able to call "home" for the next 7 days. All you could hear from each room were cries of "have you seen this?!" And "I can't believe how amazing this is!"
The attention to detail is unsurpassed. Alexis and Peter have thought of everything from a fabulous doggy box with metal discs for the dog collars containing all the details for Tanpits and disposable ones too, to a little bag of washing powder and instructions on how to use EVERY appliance!!! So many times these days, holiday lets become something of a monetary commodity and the fact real people are spending their hard earned holiday time there is forgotten. This couldn't be farther from the truth for Alexis and Peter. We truly felt as if we were being allowed to share their home and that Tanpits welcomed us with open arms!
The house was immaculate (thanks to Sharon!) and you would never in a million years know it has had so many four legged friends through the doors! It smelt so fresh and clean throughout. The beds were divine with crisp white linen and mattress toppers so thick it was like sleeping on a cloud! Tiny details such as old fashioned drawer liners, completely in keeping with the tradition of the house and old fashioned toys on the shelves took you back in time and being able to read and see all the changes the house has come through thanks to a brilliant information folder made you feel like you had lived there forever!
The kitchen was superb and had every appliance and gadget you could possibly need so we had some fantastic dinners and quality time around the super dining room table.
The dogs relished every single moment and having the field really made it perfect! We had originally been going with only 4 dogs but begged alexis and Peter to let us bring the 5th (which didn't take much persuasion!!!!) and they were brilliant about it! In fact they have been absolutely fantastic the whole way through and we cannot thank them enough! From the very moment they took the booking they have been there for us every step of the way. Any questions we had, we never felt we couldn't ask and the whole process was made so easy. The cottage itself is a true reflection of how much they care about it and those who are fortunate enough to get to share it, if only briefly, as it is obvious how much time, effort, consideration and love has gone in to it.
Tanpits is perfection for those who want to spend quality time with family, friends and their four legged companions. The surrounding area is excellent with plenty of shops within a 5 minute drive and beaches to rival the Mediterranean! And in the evening what better than to cosy up in front of the open fire or have a BBQ in the garden?
We truly have had the most exceptional time (so much so I keep dreaming about it!)
No pictures or videos could ever do this truly exceptional cottage justice, you need to experience it for yourself as I said before there are no words!
Thank you so much for letting us stay, we will definitely be back!!

2nd-9th July 2016

We found out about this wonderful, dog friendly cottage on the Facebook site having been let down by a previous booking we had made elsewhere. When people say "everything happens for a reason " it's absolutely true! We were so disappointed having lost the original booking and then along came this little beauty!
Alexis and Peter couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating to our specific needs and we were in contact right from the booking stage up to actually being on holiday, nothing was too much trouble.
We were all so excited leading up to the holiday but I don't think any of us were quite prepared for just how perfect the cottage was when we eventually arrived. Walking through the little gate by the stream into the cottage garden, we all gasped! It was just lovely!
As you walk into the kitchen, you are struck by just how vintage this place is. Although everything is modern and every effort has been made to ensure that you couldn't want for anything, washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave etc, it still very much retained the charm of a traditional country cottage kitchen. It was great to read up about the history of the cottage in the information guide that the owners had put together too!
As you move through from the kitchen, you come to the living/dining room. It was nice that there was the lounge area here as well as the second "tv room".In this room there was the entertainment set up which was too technical for me to understand but for those in the party that did have half a clue about these things, they said that it was a very modern and advanced. The kit enabled us to have wifi at all times and access to an endless supply of music.
As I mentioned, there was also the tv lounge tucked at the other end of the cottage off the dining room. Probably the most comfy, cosy house in the cottage especially when the log fire was lit ( there are woodburners in both rooms with a supply of logs and kindling in the out house and although it is summer and we had glorious weather, we just couldn't resist the crackle of the open fires in the evening when it got cooler)
Up the little staircase you come to the first floor where you will find 3 double bedrooms (one with twin beds, one with a double and a single, one with a double and a beautiful en suite bathroom with a charming claw foot bath in front of the window looking over the field) and a fourth single bedroom (with a sink) and then the family bathroom. Plenty of storage space for clothes with both wardrobes and drawers available so that never needs to be a concern.
The garden to the cottage was huge and a massive hit with our four legged friends that were with us. With benches outside the entrance to the kitchen and a table on the patio area accessible from the French doors leading from the back of the kitchen and even a BBQ which is just perfect for a summers evening!
As if that wasn't enough, just through the garden gate you are in a HUGE field which is yours to enjoy. The dogs, children (old and young) spent hours playing in the field, it was just perfect.
I could literally go on and on and on about how special this place is and it still wouldn't do it justice.
Be sure to go out exploring too. Kingsbridge is just down the road which is a lovely little harbour town. This is where you will find Morrisons and Tesco for provisions.
Other places well worth a visit are Salcombe and Dartmouth, I think Salcombe was a favourite amongst the group and I do think the cream tea we had helped this decision!
Another hidden gem was the village of Cockington. Look it up on google maps for directions. If you decide to go, you may well think you are going in the wrong direction up and down incredibly narrow roads (pretty much the norm in this part of the country) until this beautiful, picturesque village appears from nowhere. Definitely worth it as it really is something else!!
You could even try your had at surfing on one of the beaches. The name of the beach escapes me but it is in the information guide. A lovely beach whether you want to try surfing or just go exploring the rock pools. You can then finish the day with a treat from the gastrobus which do the nicest burgers I have ever tasted!!
These are just a few places to explore and there are tons more beside which gives us the perfect excuse to have another holiday at Tanpits 😃
This truly has been a great holiday. Spending time with family and friends in such a beautiful perfect cottage!
Thank you so much and I just know that anybody who is booked to go to Tanpits are in for a real treat!
Xx

What can I say? The perfect peaceful haven with more than enough space, both in the cottage and stunning gardens and adjoining field. Whether you want to walk, sit, chill or just enjoy the amazing surroundings I can't recommend Tanpits enough. Within easy reach of the beach and lovely Kingsbridge and Salcombe this treasure has it all.

What a fabulous bolt hole. Away from it all for relaxing, yet with good access to a beautiful part of Devon with its fishing villages, beaches and fabulous eateries. So much space both inside and out, but at the same time so very cosy, with it's wood burning stove and squishy sofas. It certainly captured my heart and am looking forward to a return visit.

We had the most amazing week at Tanpits, we really didn't want to leave. We were smiling from the moment we arrived, when we saw the beautiful cottage and explored all of the rooms and outside areas. We loved all of the welcoming touches which make you feel like you've just arrived home. We took our 2 dogs and they settled in straight away and found their cosy spots in front of the open fire. The facilities are brilliant, everything has been thought of and provided for, leaving you nothing to worry about, except just to relax and enjoy. Outside the gardens are stunning and so peaceful, and the adjoining 2 acre field is just perfect for anybody holidaying with their dogs, our spaniels had the best time! You really couldn't ask for more! Thank you Alexis and Peter for sharing your home with us.. we will be back!

If peace and quiet, rest and relaxation are what you're looking for from a holiday cottage, look no further! Tanpits Cottage is blissful. We had a week in early March with mixed weather but had a brilliant time, revisting old haunts in Modbury and Kingsbridge as well as snuggling up in front of a roaring log fire. We didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back. Not much higher praise!

Wow where do I start..Karl and I were lucky enough have a short break at Tanpits cottage last year and I'd like to describe it as a piece of glorious peaceful heaven tucked away on a delightful forgotten lane on planet Earth..so homely and comfortable..surrounded by green leafy lanes full of ferns, grasses and and cow parsley. We went for a quiet 'mind break' holiday and that's exactly what Tanpits delivered. Lots of relaxing time spent in the wonderful garden full of roses and fabulous views..we loved it here! Just wish we could of stoked up one of those lovely wood burners whilst we were there..only one thing for it we will have to return again in the golden Autumn months! Thank you we adored our stay...😊

We felt so lucky to have stayed here for a few nights in October 2014. We were incredibly comfy and cosy and felt completely at home. It really is a perfect spot to explore the surrounding area, especially the beauty of Dartmouth where we had so much fun crabbing off the quayside. There's some incredible places to eat nearby, and some wonderful walks. I couldn't recommend Tanpits more and we will certainly be back as soon as we can!
